On 14 August, the historic old town of Sassnitz will once again host the Altstadt Festival around the Old Market Square (Alter Markt). The festival brings together live music, arts and crafts, family activities, local food and drinks, and the distinctive character of Sassnitz’s old town.
From 4:30 PM onwards, the Old Market Square becomes the centre of the festival with an afternoon and evening programme of live music. Visitors can explore the historic streets, enjoy refreshments, discover local art and craftsmanship, and experience the relaxed atmosphere of the old town.
At Karlsplatz, children can take part in an interactive instrument-building workshop led by master guitar maker David Brahm from the island of Rügen. Young visitors will have the opportunity to build, experiment with and explore sounds using simple materials and plenty of creativity.
Also at Karlsplatz, the Small Art Market offers paintings, books, handcrafted wooden objects and other unique works by local artists and craftspeople.
Along the Seafront Promenade, the Kleine Konditorei will be serving refreshing strawberry punch and other summer treats. From 7:00 PM onwards, live music provides a pleasant setting for a break by the sea.
The festival concludes with a fire show at 10:30 PM on the Seafront Promenade, combining fire artistry, movement and music in a memorable finale.
